OHYAB President Represented One Health Youth Symposium in Bangladesh as part of Youth Community Practices at FAO–NAU Global Youth Summit 2025
28 May 2026
Last year, from 30 November to 3 December 2025, the President of the One Health Youth Alliance Bangladesh (OHYAB), Dr. Abu Sayed, was invited as one of the keynote speakers at the FAO–Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU) One Health Global Youth Summit 2025 in Nanjing, China.
Dr. Sayed represented the youth-led One Health activities in Bangladesh as part of a growing community of practice aimed at engaging young people in One Health initiatives and building capacity for sustainable, interdisciplinary health action. He highlighted the contributions of OHYAB youth leaders, who have mobilized students from One Health disciplines and young professionals through organizing platforms including the Food and Agriculture Youth Institute of the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS), the International Veterinary Students Association (IVSA), and the PSTU and KAU chapters.
Through these platforms, OHYAB youth leaders have successfully conducted two national-level One Health Youth Symposiums, providing students, early-career professionals, and young researchers with opportunities to discuss pressing health challenges, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and translate One Health concepts into tangible community impact.
The FAO–NAU One Health Global Youth Summit program featured keynote sessions, interactive workshops, roundtable discussions, and student-led presentations. Participants engaged on topics including zoonotic disease prevention, food safety, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), sustainable livestock systems, digital innovation, and youth-led community action. The Summit also launched the Global One Health Youth Engagement Call for Action, inviting young leaders worldwide to contribute to research, policy, communication, and grassroots One Health initiatives.
At the Summit, Dr. Sayed shared the leadership and communication strategies, Bangladesh’s youth-led experiences, particularly how to bring youth into action, explored global collaboration opportunities, and engaged with international peers in discussions on fostering One Health solutions. The event emphasized the essential role of youth in bridging disciplines, mobilizing communities, and translating ideas into action that strengthen human, animal, plant, and environmental health. Finally, the event was concluded with the reinforcement of the message that youth engagement is essential for building a sustainable and healthier future worldwide.
